Ragin' Cajuns Picked To Finish Second In SBC Coaches Poll

Preseason team to be unveiled Monday at SBC Media Day
NEW ORLEANS – With its season-opener against Kentucky just over seven weeks away, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns football team was picked to finish second overall as the Sun Belt Conference Coaches Preseason Poll was released on Friday by the league office.

Georgia Southern was picked to defend its league title, earning six first-place votes among the league's 11 coaches and receiving 110 points. The Eagles edged the Ragin' Cajuns, who garnered three first-place votes and 108 points, for first place in the standings with Arkansas State (96), Applachian State (82) and Texas State (78) rounding out the top five.

South Alabama, which joined Louisiana and Arkansas State as bowl teams in 2014, was picked to finish sixth in the preseason poll after earning one first-place vote and 68 points. ULM (59) was picked seventh in the poll with Troy (39), Georgia State (32), New Mexico State (30) and Idaho (24) following.

Louisiana, which posted a 9-4 record that was capped by its fourth straight victory in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, reports to fall camp on Aug. 5. The Ragin' Cajuns will officially kick off the 2015 season in a 6 p.m. CDT game at Kentucky on Sept. 5 before hosting in-state opponent Northwestern State on Sept. 12 at Cajun Field.

The Ragin' Cajuns will host six games at Cajun Field in 2015, including a non-conference date against Mid-American Conference opponent Akron (Sept. 19), along with Sun Belt Conference foes Texas State (Oct. 10), ULM (Oct. 31), New Mexico State (Nov. 21) and Troy (Dec. 5).
