Shepherd's career-high tying 22 points not enough in tough loss
RUSTON – The trio of Alex Hamilton, Erik McCree and Dayon Griffin combined to score 46 of Louisiana Tech's 58 points in the second half and the Bulldogs rallied from a 10-point deficit to earn a 91-79 victory over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns in a non-conference game on Saturday at the Thomas Assembly Center.

Hamilton scored 30 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and handed out eight assists for Louisiana Tech (8-1), which shot 55 percent (18-for-33) from the floor in the second half after trailing 37-33 at halftime. McCree finished with 25 points on 10-of-19 shooting for the Bulldogs with Griffin adding 22 points after going 9-fof-10 from the floor and 4-for-4 from behind the 3-point line.

Louisiana (3-4), which led the entire way for nearly the game's first 30 minutes, took a 53-43 lead with 14:18 remaining in game after Shawn Long sank a pair of free throws. The Bulldogs would score five straight points as Griffin sank a 3-pointer and McCree scored on a layup, and after a bucket by Long gave the Ragin' Cajuns a 55-48 lead, Tech would score the next 11 points for a 59-55 advantage with 9:42 left.

After the Ragin' Cajuns forced three ties down the stretch, the last on a pair of free throws by Kasey Shepherd that knotted the game at 63-63 with 7:19 remaining, the Bulldogs would take the lead for good as McCree and Hamilton would score buckets sandwiched around a 3-pointer by Jacobi Boykins to push the lead to 70-63.

Louisiana, the last team to defeat Louisiana Tech on its home floor in the last 56 games dating back to 2012, scored the game's first seven points and held Tech without a field goal for the first five minutes. The Bulldogs cut the lead to one twice in the first half, but the Ragin' Cajuns answered both times as Jay Hedgeman converted a pair of free throws for a 9-6 lead a the 14:22 mark and Jay Wright buried a 3-pointer for a 37-33 leading in the final seconds of the first half.

The Bulldogs finished 31-for-61 (50.8 percent) from the floor, 8-for-20 (40.0 percent) from the 3-point line and 21-for-28 (75.0 percent) from the charity stripe, including 18-for-19 in the second half.

Louisiana will return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 15, when it travels to Los Angeles to face UCLA in a game at historic Pauley Pavilion. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT and will be televised on the PAC-12 Network.
