HOUSTON, Texas – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns golf team posted its first under-par round of the spring on Sunday at The Golf Club of Houston carding a score of 2-under (286) to finish the 2014 Bayou City Collegiate Championships in 13th place.

"I'm really proud of these guys for hanging in there and fighting till the very end," head coach Theo Sliman said. "They finished the last nine holes in a strong fashion. Even though we had our struggles in the first couple days, this team never gave up."

No. 15 Houston was the wire-to-wire champion with an overall score of 31-under par (833). No. 21 Texas was the runner up at 23-under (841), while No. 29 South Carolina (-8, 851), No. 19 Arkansas (-6, 855) and No. 31 Baylor (-8, 856) rounded out the top 5 teams.

"There's not a doubt in my mind that this team learned a lot this weekend," Sliman mentioned. "Every team can learn lessons. The key thing is that you apply those lessons."

Roman Robledo of Houston overtook teammate Wesley McClain in the final 18 holes carding a score of 6-under (66) to win the tournament with a 36-hole score of 12-under (204).

Haraldur Magnus posted a score of 3-under (69) and Thomas Strandemo carded a 2-under (7) in the final round to finish in a tie for 46th at 4-over (220).

Christian Verrougstraete notched a round of even-par (72) to also place in a tie for 46th with Magnus and Strandemo.

Fernando Cruz Valle and Ross Davis closed out the scoring for the Cajuns as Cruz Valle finished in a tie for 64th at 8-over (224), while Davis ended up in a tie for 68th at 9-over (225).

"We are going to come home and regroup and get ready for the tournament in Choudrant," Sliman added. "We still have a lot of golf to be played this season."

Louisiana returns to action on March 3-4 at the Argent Financial Classic hosted by Louisiana Tech at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, La. Following the Argent Financial Classic, the Cajuns head home for the 29th Louisiana Classics from March 10-11.
