SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Ragin' Cajuns golf team battled cold and blustery conditions on Tuesday at Oak Hills Country Club to finish in a tie for fourth place at the Oak Hills Invitational, hosted by UTSA.
Â
Louisiana posted a final round score of 18-over par (302) to finish the event at 44-over (896) in a tie with East Carolina.
Â
"It was a brutal day," When you look at the scores from today from top to bottom of the leaderboard you realize that everyone was just trying to hold on. I thought our guys did a good job of managing things and not letting things get away from them.
Â
"We did not nearly play what I would think is our best golf and we still managed to finish in the top 5. If we can continue to come out and manage things like we did this weekend I am confident this team is going to do some good things."
Â
No. 13 Oklahoma held on to claim the tournament championship at 24-over (876), while Baylor dropped four shots on the Sooners to end up in second at 29-over (881). North Texas took the third spot after the final round with an overall score of 33-over (885).
Â
Baylor's Kyle Jones was able to fend off teammate Andreas Gjesteby to take individual medalist honors with a score of even-par (213). Gjesteby carded a tremendous final round score of 4-under (67) to finish a stroke behind Jones in second.
Â
Freshman Fernando Cruz Valle was one of two Cajuns to finish the event in the top 25. Cruz Valle ended up in 11th at 8-over (221). Also placing in the top 25 was Haraldur Magnus as he finished in a tie for 21st at 11-over (224).
Â
Thomas Strandemo ended the day one shot back of Magnus in a tie for 28th at 12-over (225).
Â
After starting the day in a tie for 73rd, sophomore Ross Davis moved up 29 spots into a tie for 44th at 18-over (231) after shooting the lowest team score of the day at 2-over (73).
Â
"I'm really proud of the way Ross bounced back today after a rough first day," Sliman added.
Â
Christian Verrougstraete rounded out the scoring for Louisiana in a tie for 65th at 22-over (235).
Â
The Ragin' Cajuns will have a week off before returning to action on Feb. 21-23 at the Bayou City Collegiate Championship in Houston, Texas.
