COLUMBIA, Mo. – Despite posting the second lowest team score of the day, the Ragin' Cajuns golf team finished 11th at the Columbia Regional Preview on an overcast and rainy Tuesday at The Club at Old Hawthorne.

Louisiana carded a score of two-over par (290) led by a round of 2-under (70) by sophomore Thomas Strandemo. The Fargo, N.D. product climbed 21 spots on the leaderboard after the final round to finish in a tie for 28th at seven-over par (223).

After posting a triple bogey on the first hole, Strandemo went on to play bogey free golf for the final 17 holes while tallying five birdies on the day.

"I am extremely proud of the whole team today," head coach Theo Sliman said. "The conditions were very difficult and it could of been very easy, yet not acceptable for the guys to pack it in. The team fought hard all day through lots of adversity and posted the second lowest round of the day."

The Cajuns finished the tournament with a three-round score of 31-over (895).

Christian Verrougstraete also made a move up the leaderboard to post his first career top-25 performance placing in a tie for 22nd at six-over par (222) with a final round score of 1-over (73).

Missouri held on to win the team title with a 54-hole score of 12-under (852). Iowa State notched a team score of eight-under par (280) to place second, while Austin Peay (+6, 870), San Francisco (+12, 876) and Tulsa (+15, 879) round out the top 5 teams.

The Tiger's Emilio Cuartero was the top individual with a score of 11-under (205).

Haraldur Magnus ended the tournament in a tie for 42nd at 11-over (227) carding a score of 2-over (74) in the final round. Ross Davis capped the scoring for the Cajuns with a round of 1-over (73) to finish in a tie for 48th at 13-over (229).

"It didn't help that we had three players get off to horrible starts, but each of them bounced back," Sliman stated. "Thomas made a triple on his opening hole and finished the day at 2-under. Both Ross and Haraldur picked up quick doubles in their rounds and fought the whole day. This team showed some guts today and we are coming home better players from it."

The squad will have a week off before heading to the David Toms Intercollegiate at the University Club in Baton Rouge on Oct. 5-6.
