BATON ROUGE, La. – Freshman Fernando Cruz Valle notched his second top 5 finish of the fall as he placed in a tie for third at the David Toms Intercollegiate on Sunday the University Club.

Cruz Valle carded a 74 in the final round to finish with a 54-hole score of one-under par (215).

"Hats off to Fernando," head coach Theo Sliman said. "To get another top 5 finish in three starts and playing with the leaders shows what kind of special player he is. I can't say enough about how proud I am of him. Its awesome to see how comfortable he is among the leaders, a place he expects to be at each tournament. It's going to be fun to watch him the rest of this year."

As a team, the Cajuns dropped two spots on the final day to finish in fourth place at 17-over (881). Southeastern Louisiana cruised to the tournament championship with the only sub-par team score of four-under (860).

Iowa State had the low round of the day posting a final round score of four-under to finish in second at 12-over (876), while Kennesaw State just edged out Louisiana for third place with a score of 16-over (880). Houston rounded out the top 5 teams at 18-over (882).

"I am really, really proud of the guys," Sliman added. "We beat some pretty good teams this weekend. This team has beaten some really good programs this year. We had some great opportunities that we didn't take advantage of though. We need to clean up some of these mental errors. We've won a tournament and been in contention at another, so we know we have the skill set needed to win."

Grady Brame of Southeastern La. won individual medalist honors overtaking teammate Eamon Bradley with a final round score of four-under (67) to notch a three-round score of seven-under (209).

Sophomore Thomas Strandemo backed up his bogey free round on Saturday with his second straight sub-par round on the final day firing an 18-hole score of one-under (71). Strandemo finished the tournament in a tie for 15th at four-over (220) which is his best career finish at Louisiana.

"Thomas is full of some grit and some guts," Sliman stated. "He played his last two rounds under par on this beast of a golf course. Leading the field in pars is quite an accomplishment."

Also placing in the top 25 for the Ragin' Cajuns was Christian Verrougstraete as he placed in a tie for 25th at seven-over (223).

Haraldur Magnus had a tough third round sliding out of the top 25 to finish in a tie for 33rd at nine-over (225), while Ross Davis capped the scoring for Louisiana in a tie for 45th at 13-over par (229).

"Despite this team backing up a few spots today, this team is coming home a much better golf team than when we got to Baton Rouge," Sliman noted.

The Cajuns are back in action on Nov. 4-5 as they head to Gulf Shores, Ala. for the ASU Fall Beach Classic. For updates and info on Ragin' Cajuns golf follow the team on twitter @CajunGolf.
