LAFAYETTE, La. --Â On the heals of its third consecutive bowl victory over the weekend, more good news came for the Ragin' Cajuns football team when six players were named to the All-Louisiana team in balloting conducted by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
Â
Seniors Justin Anderson (LB) and Andre Huval (OL) were each named to the All-Louisiana first team while juniors Alonzo Harris (RB), Justin Hamilton (DL) and Daniel Quave (OL) and freshman Elijah McGuire (RB) were named to the second team. In addition, McGuire was tabbed as the freshman of the year.
Â
"It was a pretty good football year in the state of Louisiana and especially for the Ragin' Cajuns," Louisiana head coach Mark Hudspeth said. "I am happy to see several of our players singled out for their accomplishments on the field this fall, but they are only six of 120 who helped make our school-record tying nine wins, our Sun Belt Championship and victory in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl possible.""
Â
Anderson, a 6-2, 232-pound senior from Foley, Ala., posted five double-figure tackle games en route to leading the Sun Belt and ranking 14th nationally with 131 tackles this year. Â A first team All-Sun Belt choice, he was named the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week after making 16 tackles and forcing and recovering two fumbles in a win at WKU on Oct. 15. Â He finishes his career with 257 career tackles.
Â
Huval, a 6-2, 285-pound senior from Scott, La., started the final 39 consecutive games at center for the Cajuns, anchoring one of the best offensive lines in the league. Â A first team All-Sun Belt choice, he helped Louisiana to lead the Sun Belt and rank 26th nationally in rushing (207.6). Â A two-time Capital One Academic All-District selection, Huval has twice been named to the preseason watch list by the Rimington Trophy, which annually goes to the nation's top center.
Â
Harris, a 6-1 216-pound junior from Gadsden, Ala., carried 199 times for 942 yards and 14 touchdowns this year to rank third in the conference in both rushing and touchdowns. Â A first team All-Sun Belt selection, he ranks third in school history in rushing touchdowns (32), fourth in rushing yards (2,523) and fifth in carries (532).
Â
Hamilton, a 6-2, 295-pound junior from Natchez, Miss., led all Cajuns linemen with 38 tackles, adding four quarterback sacks and nine TFL. He earned second team All-Sun Belt honors.
Â
Daniel Quave, a 6-3, 324-pound junior from Gautier, Miss., has started all 39 games during his career at offensive guard.  He led the team with 34 knockdown blocks this season. He was a first team All-Sun Belt choice.
Â
McGuire, a 5-11, 185=pound freshman from Houma, La., ranked fourth in the conference in rushing, carrying 103 times for 863 yards, a nation's-best 8.6 average and eight touchdowns while catching 22 passes for 384 yards and three scores. Â He had a team-high 17 plays of 20 yards or better this season.
McGuire, who was also named first team All-Sun Belt and Sun Belt Freshman of the Year, had four 100-yard rushing games, including a career-high 137 yards and three touchdowns against Nicholls State in his Cajun Field debut. Â At Georgia State on Nov. 16, he became one of just four players in the nation this year, and the first in school history to rush for 100 yards and catch passes for 100 yards in the same game.
Â
The Ragin' Cajuns used a 24-21 win over Tulane on Saturday (Dec. 21) in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl to tie the school record with nine wins for the third straight year. It was a bowl-record third straight New Orleans Bowl victory for the Cajuns.
