LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team won its second straight game defeating Xavier, 62-54, on Sunday at the Cajundome.  The Cajuns, who improved to 4-2 on the season, were led by a 19-point effort by sophomore guard Sylvana Okde

Braile Fields followed with 11 points for the Cajuns, scoring double-digits for the second straight game, while Adrienne Prejean grabbed a game-high in 11 rebounds.

Xavier put the Cajuns' in an early hole, with a 16-7 lead in the first six minutes of the game.  Paige Gauthier had seven of her team-high 17 points for Xavier, which was playing the game as an exhibition, during the run.

The Cajuns responded quick and found their offense, going on a 23-3 run over an eight-minute span to take the lead, and extend it to 30-19 with 2:15 left in the half. The Cajuns spread the ball around the floor during the run, with seven different Ragin' Cajuns scoring points.

The Cajuns held Xavier scoreless for an 8:25 stretch in that run, scoring 18 straight points in the process.

Xavier finally got back onto the board with four straight free throws at the 1:07 mark followed by a quick turnover and a jumper from Vinnie Briggs to get to within 30-25.

The teams would go into the half with the Cajuns up 31-25, following a free throw from Jeremica Edwards with 12 seconds remaining in the half.

Arceneaux led the Cajuns with eight points at the half and Fields followed with five.  Gauthier led the Nuggets with 10 at the half.

The Nuggets made short work of the Cajuns six-point lead at the half, eventually tying the game at 34-34 on a basket by Whitney Gaston-Loyd with 15:01 remaining in the game and taking a 38-37 lead with a lay-up by Whitney Gathright at the 12:45 mark.

The teams exchanged baskets and the lead for a few possessions before the Cajuns took their final lead at 42-40 with 11:56 left in the game following a 3-pointer from Okde.

Xavier got as close as 55-52 on a bucket by Gathright with 1:20 remaining, but Okde responded with a 3-pointer from the left corner with 52 seconds remaining and she added four free throws down the stretch to help Louisiana preserve the win.

Louisiana finished 18-for-50 (36.0 percent) from the floor and 8-for-19 (42.1 percent) from behind the 3-point line. The Cajuns forced 20 turnovers and held a 41-39 advantage on the glass.
