Cajuns Drop Heartbreaking Five-Setter To Visiting Mavs

Louisiana to host UALR on Sunday; will honor senior class in post-match ceremony

LAFAYETTE – Tonice White knocked down a career-high 22 kills to lead four players in double figures, but UT Arlington rallied in the fifth and deciding set to claim a 22-25, 25-23, 25-18, 21-25, 17-15 victory over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns on Friday at Earl K. Long Gym.
Taylor Gross recorded four of her team-high 16 kills in the fifth set at UTA (16-14, 9-8 SBC) snapped a five-match losing streak and was dominant at the net recording 19 team blocks. Charmaine Whitfield, the national leader in blocks per set entering the match, finished with 13, including four solos. Gross added eight blocks as the Mavs held Louisiana (18-13, 8-9 SBC) to a .107 hitting percentage.
White, whose previous career-high (18) came against Southern Miss earlier this season, hit .311 at the net for the Ragin' Cajuns. Kelly Wiesmann added 14 kills off the bench for Louisiana with Sara Mossakowski and Chanelle Gardner adding 11 each.
Andrea Hole posted a double-double for Louisiana with 58 assists while setting career-highs with 25 digs and four service aces. Mossakowski added a career-high 20 digs for the Ragin' Cajuns with Caitlyn Auxilien adding 18 and Lavinia Tataran 12.
Dickson added 17 digs to record a double-double for the Mavs while Caitlyn Cooney led all players with 27 digs. Megan Casey added 14 digs for UTA with Amanda Welsh and Cassidey Wheeler dishing out 26 and 14 assists respectively.
Louisiana will close out the regular-season on Sunday when it plays host to UALR in a noon contest. After the match, the Ragin' Cajuns will honor their four-member senior class – Kristen Armstrong, Taylor Meade, Tataran and White.
