LAFAYETTE, La. -- Jordan Wallace hurled her second complete game shutout in as many days as the Ragin' Cajuns topped South Alabama, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at Lamson Park.

Wallace (18-0) improved on her terrific freshman year and increased Louisiana's scoreless innings streak to 25 games, dating back to, March 25, at Troy.

Wallace gave the Cajuns (33-1, 8-1) a huge lift this weekend by throwing back-to-back complete game shutouts against a South Alabama (24-12, 11-5) team who was leading the SBC, based on winning percentage, before the series began. The Weatherford, Texas native threw a two-hitter on Saturday, while walking one and struck out seven.

“What we were able to do in the circle was special,” co-head coach Michael Lotief said. “Jordan and Ashley (Brignac) stayed focused every pitch and they threw very well this weekend.”

Matte Haack homered for the seventh time this season, while Katie Smith and Natalie Fernandez each drove in a run to provide for the Cajuns' offense.

“The slappers played well all weekend,” Lotief said. “South Alabama adjusted to what we were doing but our kids kept making their own adjustments to respond to them. How the slappers prepared and their approach was really special. It's their job to set the table and today they drove in the runs.”

Neither team could muster a run in the first as Wallace retired the Jaguars in order in the top half. Katie Smith singled to lead off the bottom half for the Cajuns, giving her the longest hitting streak of the season for the Cajuns at 15 games, but UL was unable to manufacture a run as the game headed to the second tied at zero.

Wallace allowed her first base runner of the contest on a hit by pitch in the top of the second but struck out two in the inning without surrendering a run, increasing the Cajuns' scoreless innings streak to 20.

Louisiana used a two-out rally to gain a 2-0 lead in the bottom half of the frame. Sarah Draheim and Erikka Murphy each reached on singles before Natalie Fernandez slapped a base hit through the middle to plate Draheim. Smith came to the plate and lined her second hit of the game into left field scoring Murphy for the Cajuns' second run.

Wallace did not allow her first hit until the fourth inning where she gave up a leadoff single to Blair Johnson but recovered to retire the next three USA hitters to maintain the two-run lead for UL.

South Alabama threatened in the top of the fifth as they had their first two hitters reach. Alyssa Linn sacrificed the runners to second and third with just one out, but Wallace struck out Brittany Campbell and induced Brittany Fowler into a fly out to end the half inning.

Haack gave the Cajuns an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth, launching a solo shot to right field for a 3-0 advantage. The homerun was the first in her last 15 games for the junior from Katy, Texas.

Wallace sent down the final six hitters for South Alabama, including a strikeout to Haley Richards for the last out. The freshman hurler tallied 23 punch outs in 17 innings pitched in the series.

The Cajuns will begin a six game road trip next week, where they will play a three game series at FIU, April 10-11. Louisiana will wrap up their trip at Middle Tennessee for a three game set, April 14-15.
