Chasing History: The Ragin' Cajuns finished off a double-header sweep of Houston on Wednesday night, improving their record to 19-0. UL is off to their second best start in school history behind a 2006 squad that began the year 22-0.
Opening Up SBC Play: No. 11 ranked UL is the defending SBC champions after finishing the league with a 19-5 record. The Cajuns are 9-2 all-time in Sun Belt play openers.
Sun Belt Dominance: The squad is 99-15 in SBC home games and co-head coach, Stefni Lotief, is 186-35 all-time in conference play.
Dominating the Mean Green: Louisiana holds an overall record of 33-3 over North Texas. The Mean Green snapped an 18 game losing skid against the Cajuns with an 8-5 victory in the final meeting between the two last season.
Playing Free Softball: UL topped the Cougars on Wednesday in game one, 12-7, in a nine inning affair. The game marked the first extra inning contest for the Cajuns this season.
Cajuns Add to Grand Slam Total: Christi Orgeron and Megan Granger each blasted a grand slam in game one of the double-header against Houston. It was Orgeron's third of the year and Granger's first of her career. Louisiana has now hit six grand slams on the season.
Haack and Myers Share MVP Honors: Matte Haack and Nerissa Myers were named Co-MVP's of the Ragin' Cajun Invitational. The two were joined on the All-Tourney team by fellow Cajuns, Ashley Brignac, Brianna Cherry and Christi Orgeron.
Myers Named POW: Nerissa Myers was named Co-Sun Belt Player of the week along with North Texas' Caitlin Grimes. Myers led the Invitational last weekend with 13 hits and posted a .619 batting average. The shortstop recorded nine runs, seven RBI, .952 slugging percentage, .652 on base percentage and was a perfect 4-of-4 in stolen bases.
Haack on Fire: Matte Haack hit a homerun in each of the games on Wednesday and has now homered in three consecutive contests. The junior has hit four long balls in her last six ballgames. Haack is second on the team in average (.424), homeruns (6) and RBI (33).
Smith Swiping Bags: Senior outfielder, Katie Smith, led the Cajuns with five stolen bases in the Ragin' Cajuns Invitational and moved into third place all-time in UL history with 77.
Granger Seeing Action at the Dish: Megan Granger has made the most of her playing opportunities turning in a 7-for-13 (.538) effort at the plate in her last five games with one homerun and nine RBI.
Still Haven't Been Caught Stealing: Louisiana stole two bases on Wednesday evening, adding to their perfect stolen base total of 39-for-39 on the season.
Offense Clicking: The Cajuns are averaging 10.2 runs per game and are outscoring their opponents 194-47 on the year.
Beat the Streak: Katie Smith had her hitting streak snapped at 14 games on Wednesday. Matte Haack has hit safely in 11 straight contests, while Nerissa Myers currently sits at 10. The all-time Cajuns record is 25 games set by Kelli Bruce in 1999.
Scouting North Texas: The Mean Green feature co-SBC Player of the Week, Caitlin Grimes, who patrols the backstop and leads the team with 16 RBI. Grimes and Maddelyn Fraley are tied for the team lead with a .340 batting average and five homeruns. North Texas has a one-two punch in their rotation headlined by Brittany Simmons (1.96 ERA) and Ashley Kirk (2.14 ERA). UNT also presents Preseason All-SBC selection, Lisa Johnson, at second base.
