Chasing History: The Ragin' Cajuns finished 5-0 at the 2012 Ragin' Cajuns Invitational improving their record to 17-0 on the season. The undefeated start to the season is the second best in school history – UL opened up the 2006 season 22-0.
Cajuns Continue to Climb Polls: Louisiana is ranked No. 11 in both national polls, which were released Tuesday. The Cajuns moved up one sport in both the USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 and the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Polls.
Seeking Revenge: Houston knocked Louisiana out of the 2011 Regional played in Austin, Texas, defeated the Cajuns 7-2 in the first game and 4-1 in the final game. UL holds an overall record of 12-6 against the Cougars.
Haack and Myers Share MVP Honors: Matte Haack and Nerissa Myers were named Co-MVP's of the Ragin' Cajun Invitational. The two were joined on the All-Tourney team by fellow Cajuns, Ashley Brignac, Brianna Cherry and Christi Orgeron.
Myers Named POW: Nerissa Myers was named Co-Sun Belt Player of the week along with North Texas' Caitlin Grimes. Myers led the Invitational last weekend with 13 hits and posted a .619 batting average. The shortstop recorded nine runs, seven RBI, .952 slugging percentage, .652 on base percentage and was a perfect 4-of-4 in stolen bases.
Myers' Clutch Blast Tops UK: Myers came through with one of the the biggest hits in her career against Kentucky as she stepped to the plate with two outs and two runners aboard with the Cajuns trailing 4-2 in the seventh. The junior launched a 0-1 pitch over the right center wall to give UL the 5-4 victory.
Haack's Bat Heating Up: Matte Haack hit two homeruns over the weekend giving her four on the year. The junior led the tournament with ten runs, nine RBI and a 1.188 slugging percentage. Haack was second on the squad with nine hits, four of which were doubles, had a .563 batting average and an on base percentage of .667.
Cherry Sets Career Mark: Brianna Cherry recorded a career-high six RBI in the final game against Stephen F. Austin – the most of any player in a game over the weekend. The Petal, Miss. native hit .412, while finishing with a slugging percentage of .588 and reached base at a .524 rate.
Smith Swiping Bags: Senior outfielder, Katie Smith, led the Cajuns with five stolen bases over the weekend and moved into third place all-time in UL history with 77.
Granger Seeing Action at the Dish: Megan Granger made the most of her at bats over the weekend as she led the tournament with a .625 batting average and drove in five RBI. The senior hit her second career triple on Sunday against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi.
Still Haven't Been Caught Stealing: Louisiana was 16-of-16 in stolen bases in the tournament and are now a perfect 37-for-37 on the season.
Offense Clicking: The Cajuns are averaging 10.5 runs per game and are outscoring their opponents 179-38 on the year. UL leads the conference in nine offensive categories, including batting average (.375), RBI (156) and homeruns (23).
Beat the Streak: Katie Smith has hit safely in 13 consecutive games. The all-time Cajuns record is 25 games set by Kelli Bruce in 1999.
Scouting Houston: The Cougars are 10-9 on the year and are coming into Wednesday's game losers of 4 of their past five contests. Houston holds a 7-2 record at home this year and are led in hitting by Reina Gaber with a .483 batting average. Haley Outon and Holly Anderson keep the middle of their lineup dangerous with four homeruns apiece. Pitcher Diedre Outon has thrown 50 innings for the Cougars, posting a 2.10 ERA.
