The No.50 Ragin' Cajuns golf team finished in a tie for fourth overall at the Oak Hills Invitational Tuesday after posting a final round score of 293 at Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio, Texas.
“This was the first tournament for us after a long break, and we have a lot of positives to draw from,” head coach Theo Sliman. “Being in first place after the first round was a new experience for us, and I am a little disappointed that we didn't finish strong.”
UL carded a three-day total of 21-over par (873) finishing in a tie with North Texas. Texas Tech won the Oak Hill Invitational with a final score of seven-over par (859).
“Going forward this will be something we can draw from as a team when we are put in the same situation later this spring,” Sliman added. “We just need to continue to learn and apply and good things will happen.”
The Cajuns had two golfers finish in the top 10 as Andrew Noto recorded a final round score of 75 to finish in a tie for sixth at one-over par (214). Philipp Fendt joined Noto in the top 10 placing in a tie for eighth after a final round score of 68 (-3) for an overall score of 215 (+2).
Brandt Garon carded a final round score of 76 to finish in a tie for 30th overall at +8 (221), while Chris Weninger rounded out the scoring for the Cajuns in a tie for 42nd at +10 (223).
Texas Tech (859), No.34 Oklahoma (862), No.32 Baylor (865), Louisiana (873) No.37 North Texas (873) rounded out the top-five in the tournament. Baylor's Jaokim Mikkelsen finished atop the leaderboard at three-under par (210).
UL returns to action next weekend when the Cajuns head to the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate in Mobile, Ala. The tournament is slated to get underway on Feb. 20.
