Ragin' Cajuns Fall on the Road to ULM

With the score 18-16 The Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team was outscored 48-19 from the 4:54 mark in the first half to the end of the game, as they fell to conference opponent Louisiana-Monroe 66-35 on Saturday afternoon at the Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
 
Louisiana (5-16, 0-9) struggled to find the bottom of the basket as they shot 12-of-55 (.218) from the field and scored a season-low in points for the game.
 
UL was led in scoring by Krystal Motley with eight points and four rebounds. Josie West had eight rebounds and three blocks in the effort.
 
ULM (7-15, 5-4) finished with three players in double-figures with Larrie Williams leading the way with 22 points and seven rebounds. Ashleigh Simmons had 10 points and eight rebounds, while Taylor Maricle added 10 points herself.
 
The Warhawks struck first in the contest as Maricle made a layup and a three-pointer giving the home team a 5-0 lead going into the first media timeout.
 
Two free throws from Brooklyn Arceneaux and a baseline jumper from Motley at the 14:40 mark got the Ragin' Cajuns on the scoreboard making it a 5-4 ballgame in favor of La-Monroe.
 
ULM extended their lead when Simmons grabbed an offensive rebound, on a missed free throw from Williams, and made a lay-up giving the home squad an 11-4 advantage.
 
After the teams traded baskets, West received a pass from Arceneaux and knocked down a jump shot from the elbow cutting the Warhawk lead to 13-8 with 8:37 to play in the first stanza.
 
La-Monroe made back-to-back buckets including their second three of the game upping the lead to 10.
 
The Cajuns responded as Bianca Davis fed Megan Whittaker as she connected on a three-pointer from the corner. On the next possession, Arceneaux handed the ball off to Whittaker as she hit another trey, brining UL within four. Jean-Marie Allen hit a turn around jumper in the paint, completing an 8-0 Louisiana scoring run, making the score 18-16 in favor of ULM at the 4:54 mark.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns couldn't find an answer for ULM as the home team tallied the final 12 points to take a 30-18 lead going into the locker rooms.
 
UL shot 22 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes and committed 10 turnovers. Whittaker's two three-pointers led the Cajuns with six points and West had five rebounds.
 
Williams paced ULM with 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field. Simmons chipped in six points and garnered six boards.
 
La-Monroe began the second half on a 13-3 scoring spurt as Alexar Tuglar hit a free throw to complete a three-point play, giving the Warhawks a 43-19 lead with 13:26 to play.
 
Nicole Morris answered the Warhawk run by knocking down a jump shot from beyond the arc cutting the home team's lead to 43-22.
 
ULM extended their lead up to 26 before Brandi Schambough connected on her second three-pointer of the season, making the score 48-25.
 
La-Monroe would go on a 14-4 run in the next six-plus minutes to gain their largest lead of the ball game, 62-29.
