Elfrid Payton, an all-state point guard from John Ehret High School in Marrero, La., and Alan-Michael Thompson, a junior college scoring guard from Brunswick Community College in Supply, N.C., signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Cajuns next season.
As a senior, Payton earned first-team Class 5A all-state honors, made the Times-Picayune All-Metro Team for large schools and was the District 9-5A MVP. The 6-1, 160 lbs guard averaged 12.8 points, 5.2 assists and 4.1 steals per game as John Ehret posted a 30-4 record, advanced to the Top 28. The Patriots finished the regular season ranked No. 1 in the state in Class 5A.
Thompson, a 6-2, 180 lbs. scoring guard, averaged 15.7 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists last season for the Dolphins. He shot 43 percent from the floor and knocked down 86 percent from the free throw line.
In his two years at BCC, he became the program's second all-time leading scorer with 1,027 points. He was a two-time All-Region selection and helped lead the Dolphins to the Region 10/District 10 Division I Tournament Champions and an appearance at the NJCCA National Championship tournament in the 2009-10 season.
The duo will bring Marlin's 2011-12 class to six signees after junior college players Odayne Clarke, Kadeem Coleby and Darnell Jackson, and high school athlete Kentwan Smith signed with UL in the early signing period.
