The 18th ranked Ragin' Cajuns softball team got a six-game homestand started off in fine fashion with a 7-0 win over Centenary at Lamson Park on Wednesday night.
The victory moved the Cajuns to 17-1 at Lamson Park on the year and 40-1 all-time against the Ladies including 31 straight wins.
Three different Cajuns combined for the shutout Ashley Brignac (19-3) picking up the win after starting and striking out four in three innings. Christina Hamilton threw the next two innings, giving up one hit before giving way to Shelbee Rodgers. Rodgers went on to throw two hitless innings, striking out three, to close out the Ladies.
At the plate, seven different Cajuns recorded one base hit while Sarah Draheim posted two RBI. The Cajuns drew eight walks, giving them 32 walks in their last four games.
The Cajuns got on top early, plating six runs on just three hits in the first inning. Nerissa Myers was hit by a pitch, Christi Orgeron singled up the middle and Brianna Cherry was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no body out.
Walks to Draheim and Paige Cormier plated the first two runs, and singles by Jennifer Martin and Megan Granger plated the next two. Katie Smith would later walk and Myers would reach on a fielder's choice to plate the final two runs and give UL a 6-0 lead after one inning.
All six runs were charged to Centenary starter Lauren Highsmith (2-19) who gave way to Lynsi Unruh before recording an out.
Unruh went on to hold the Cajuns scoreless through five innings before UL plated one in the fifth. Orgeron reached on a fielder's choice with one out and moved to second on a ground out.
Draheim then recorded her second RBI on the game when she singled through the left side to plate Orgeron and put UL ahead 7-0.
The Cajuns will continue their homestand this weekend when they host Middle Tennessee in a three-game Sun Belt set. UL's doubleheader on Saturday will begin at 1:00 p.m. with both games being televised on MyKLAF. The single game on Sunday will begin at 11:00 a.m. and air on the Sun Belt Network.
