Cajuns Fall In Home Finale, 6-1

In its final home match of the season, Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team fell to Lamar, 6-1, as the Cajuns' honored the team's two seniors, Mia Gordon and Julie Mazinova.

"Today was a day where we learned a lot from a high level team," said UL head coach Greg Harkins. "We had a tremendous effort from our squad. I'm proud of the way our seniors played in their final home match. They gave every ounce they could."

The Cardinals (12-2) jumped out early, winning two of the three doubles matches, to claim the first point. Gordon and Milou Israel won the no. 3 doubles, 8-3, but it was not enough as the other two doubles pairing fell by the same score, 8-6.

The Cardinals swept the Cajuns (9-6) in the single matches, winning the no. 1 through the no. 5 spots.

In the no. 6 match, Gordon ended her collegiate career at Cajun Courts with a win. She downed Lamar's Alessandra Pennesi in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, to claim the Cajuns' lone point.

"We had good support from the crowd and student body in final home match of the year," added Harkins. "Now its time to learn from this and take it on the road for the final two matches of the season. Every match this year has been tough. The next step is to get everyone competing at the same level, at the same time."

The Cajuns will have some down time before heading out on the road to close out the season. On April 9, UL will head to Tulane and then play a rescheduled match against La.-Monroe for the season finale on April 10.
