University of Louisiana men's and women's track & field interim head coach Paula Ogunbanjo announced Wednesday the signing of eight student-athletes to National Letters of Intent for the 2011-12 academic year.

All eight signees come from the high school ranks, representing five different states. Three student-athletes are from the state of Louisiana and two are from Texas. The other three athletes are from Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi.

Joining the Cajuns next season are: Taylor Angelle (Arnaudville, La. - Beau Chene High School), Jasmine Fusiler (New Iberia, La. - New Iberia High School), Jana Jones (Hinesville, Ga. - Liberty County High School), Stacy Imagbe (Houston, Texas - Alief Elsik High School), Kenneth Nassar (Long Beach, Miss. - Long Beach High School), Joshua Sigler (Mobile, Ala. - Murphy High School), Madalyn Trisler (St. Francisville, La. - West Feliciana High School) and Asja Whitmore (Grand Prairie, Texas - Bowie High School).

"We are excited about the signing of these athletes," said Ogunbanjo. "They are going to come in and make an immediate contribution to our program next year. This is one step in the right direction and only the beginning of the great things to come."

Angelle finished as the Louisiana Class 4-A state runner-up in the discus throw during her junior campaign. She holds Beau Chene's school record with a toss of 114 feet and six inches.

Fuller, who specializes in jumps, placed third in the triple jump in Louisiana's Class 5-A ranks during her freshman and junior campaigns. She holds the New Iberia school record in the triple jump with a distance of 39-6. She also set the school's 400-meter dash record.

Jones, another field specialist, placed first at the Georgia 3-A State Championships in the discus last season. She was named the 2009-10 Track & Field MVP for Liberty County High School. The two-time region champion placed fifth in the East Coast Junior Olympic Throwers meet last summer.

Imagbe, a sprinter, was a regional qualifier in the 100-meter, 200-meter, 400-meter dash and long jump for Alief Elsik High School in Houston. In January she ran a personal best of 7.95 in the 60-meter dash at the Carl Lewis Invitational. Last month, she set a new season best of 16-10.5 in the Long Jump at Katy ISD Bubba Fife Relays.

Nassar, who will participate in the shot put, recorded a personal best 56 feet at the 2011 LSU Indoor High School Classic earlier this year.

Sigler, who is regarded as a strong jumper, captured the Alabama 6A state title in the long jump and triple jump last spring.

Trisler captured Louisiana's 3A state championship in the high jump with a height of 5-5.

Whitmore participated in the Texas Regionals last year in the discus and shot put.
