Women Drop First Match Of Season

After starting out strong in doubles play, Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team was unable to match No. 52 Kansas State in singles, falling 6-1 on Saturday in Dallas, Texas.

The loss snapped the Cajuns' three-game win streak the began at the start of the season.

"We started off with a ton of momentum," said UL head coach Greg Harkins. "But we were beat by a team that went the distance. We battled to three sets in five matches, but Kansas State proved to be the better team."

Milou Israel and Briggitt Marcovich won their doubles match, 8-4. Mia Gordon and Sandra Alhqvist teamed up to secure the doubles' point with a 8-5 victory.

In singles, Kansas State swept all six matches. But Gordon, Israel, Marcovich, Julie Mazinova and Audrey Wooland all forced their respective matches to three sets.

"Tomorrow we have chance to rebound," added Harkins. "We get a chance to play back-to-back ranked opponents with No. 28 SMU. We will regroup and play our best."
