Cajuns Close Out Regular Season at Arizona

11/21/2011 9:21:00 PM | Football

The Ragin' Cajuns football team is set to close out the regular season as UL will look to tie the school record for wins in a season this weekend at Arizona. Louisiana has won nine games in a season twice with the last time coming in 1976.

The Cajuns and Wildcats kick off at 3:00 p.m. (CT) on Saturday, Nov. 26 at Arizona Stadium in Tucson, Ariz. Click here for game notes.

On Monday, Louisiana received its first bowl invitation in 41 years as the Cajuns will represent the Sun Belt Conference in the R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Saturday, December 17. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. in a live television broadcast on ESPN. The Cajuns' opponent will be announced at a later date.

With the team busy preparing for the non-conference showdown with Arizona, head coach Mark Hudspeth held his weekly media luncheon on Monday afternoon.

UL is coming off of its first bye week of the season. The Cajuns dropped a 30-21 decision the last time out against Arkansas State in Jonesboro, Ark.

The bowl invitation ends a 41 year drought for the Cajuns snapping the fourth longest active streak in the country and the eighth longest in NCAA history.

Punter Brett Baer leads the nation in career field goal percentage going 22-24 (91.7%) and ranks third in the FBS on the season (88.2%).

Ladarius Green needs four touchdowns to tie Brandon Stokley for the Louisiana career receiving touchdown record.

Green became just the fifth Cajuns receiver to reach the 2,000-yard plateau after posting 47 yards on five catches at Arkansas State. He needs just 73 yards to move into fourth all-time in career receiving yards.

At 8-3, head coach Mark Hudspeth has the most wins by any UL first year head coach eclipsing Sam Robertson's seven wins in 1980.

Junior quarterback Blaine Gautier has thrown at least one touchdown in the last five games and leads the conference in pass efficiency. He also just needs two touchdown passes to claim the Louisiana single season passing touchdowns record. Jake Delhomme currently holds the record throwing 20 touchdowns in both 1995 and 1996.

Gautier also needs just 172 yards passing to move into the UL Top 5 for passing yards in a single season.

Linebacker Lance Kelley just needs one tackle to reach the century mark for the season leading the Cajuns with 99 tackles including 53 solo on the season.
