The Ragin' Cajuns soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 loss on Senior Day to Western Kentucky as the Hilltoppers tallied a goal in the final minutes of Sunday's match at the Cajuns Soccer/Track Facility.
Louisiana (4-12-1, 0-8-0 SBC) had a 4-1 edge in corners, but were outshot by WKU (10-5-1) 11-9 in the contest.
With less than five minutes remaining in regulation, WKU's Mallory Outerbridge beat two Cajuns defenders and then slotted the ball on the ground past an outstretched Amanda Moorefield into the side of the net to give the Hilltoppers a 1-0 advantage.
The Cajuns continued to play tough defense as they held their opponents scoreless in the first half for the third straight contest.
Early in the second half, Western Kentucky's Libby Stout managed to punch away a shot by Kayla Henrie to keep the contest scoreless.
Minutes later, Christa Rostohar just missed giving UL its first lead of the weekend as her shot caromed off of the crossbar from 40-yards out.
Moorefield stepped up her play late in the second half making three big saves in a 12 minute span as the Hilltoppers stepped up the pressure.
Melissa Minton led the Cajuns in the contest with three shots, while Moorefield had five saves on the afternoon.
The Cajuns close out the home slate on Thursday at 7 p.m. when they host Florida Atlantic at the Cajuns Soccer/Track Facility.
