Cajuns Shine at Ragin' Cajuns Classic

The Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team had three individuals and three doubles teams reach the semifinals of the 2011 Ragin' Cajuns Women's Tennis Classics over the weekend at Cajun Courts inside the Culotta Center.
“The girls started out very strong, and I challenged them after Saturday to finish strong on Sunday and they did,” head women's tennis coach Greg Harkins said. “I was very impressed with the way they were able to finish strong with the ups and downs we faced in the tournament. A lot of the girls improved from our first event including Erin Wilbert.”
Audrey Woodland, Briggitt Marcovich and Wilbert each reached the semifinals of their flights, while the doubles teams of Woodland/Marcovich, Milou Israel/Wilbert and Haley Acuna/Tara Vasovic each advanced to the semifinals in doubles competition.
“This kind of tournament prepares us for conference championships,” Harkins said. “The intensity of the weekend with the match play pushes a player to the limits.”
Overall, the Cajuns posted a 10-5 record in doubles play. Wilbert led the way for UL in singles play with a team-best three wins at the event.
The Cajuns return to action on Oct. 21 at the ITA Southern Regionals in Birmingham, Ala.
