Women Come up Short Against Mississippi State

The Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team came up just short in Starkville, Miss., as they fell to Mississippi State on Saturday afternoon 5-2.
However, both top two players for UL, Audrey Wooland and Julie Mazinova were able to score singles victories against a tough SEC opponent.
"I'm really proud of the way Julie and Audrey played because the top of that Mississippi State lineup is solid," UL coach Tina Samara said. "We also had a match point in one of our other matches so it was a close match.
"I think in came down to that doubles point. That was big. I feel like we lost this match, not so much that Mississippi State beat us."
Wooland knocked off Olesya Tgivintseva 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, while Mazinova beat Radka Ferancova 6-3, 6-3.
In doubles Mazinova teamed with Mia Gordon to beat Mariia Ryzhova and Tsigvintseva 8-5 at the No. 1 spot. However, Wooland and Milou Israel fell to Danielle Terpko and Ferancova 8-4. In the No. 3 spot, Ntalia Mayuk and Valeriya Makarychva beat Shelbly Dufrene and Briggitt Marcovich 8-3.
"Having Briggit at full health would make a big difference for us," Samara said. "Not having her in the lineup puts a lot of pressure the bottom of our lineup."
The Cajuns (2-3) will now face UCF on Friday, March 5, on the road.
