Philipp Fendt and Andrew Noto started the spring golf season in fine fashion turning in top-10 finishes at Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns golf team's first spring tournament in the UTSA/Oak Hillis Invitational on Tuesday in San Antonio, Texas. As a team, the Cajuns finished in 11th place.
Fendt entered the day in a tie for first place at even par. He would go on to shoot a one-over round of 72 to finish in third place, three strokes behind the tournament's medalist, Phillip Westermann from Southeastern La.
Fendt's three day total of 214 was the second lowest score in his career. The third-place finish also tied his best career finish which he set at the 2009 Carter Plantation Intercollegiate. It was the sophomore's fifth top-five finish of his career.
Noto started the day in a tie for 22nd place at five-over par. But a final round of 70 (-1) would vault him into a tie for seventh with a total of 217.
As a team, the Cajuns finished 11th out of 15 teams with a score of 896. Texas Tech (875) won the event, followed by Southeastern La. (877) and Tulsa (878).
Thomas Disch shot 228 over the two day tournament, while Kyle Pritchard and Seth Dufrene turned in scores of 237 and 268, respectively, to round out the Cajuns scoring.
Next on the schedule for the Cajuns will be the Mardi Gras Invitational at TPC Louisiana in New Orleans, La.
