For the second time in as many weeks, Andrew Noto and Philipp Fendt finished at the top of the leaderboard for Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns golf team at the AllState Sugar Bowl Mardi Gras Invitational in New Orleans, La. As a team, the Cajuns finished in 10th place overall.
"It was tough day and we struggled," said UL head coach Theo Sliman. "But we are a mentally tough team. We will just get back home and work harder."
After starting the day in the top three, Noto would post a score of 75 (+4) to shoot a three-round total of 216 (E). The score was good enough for him to finish in a tie for fifth place overall. Last week, Noto carded a seventh place finish.
"I'm happy with Andrew's performance," added Sliman. "He had some mishaps but he was still in contention. He's always putting himself in contention. This was just another great day for his future."
Fendt began the final round in a tie for fourth place. But a score of 77 (+5) in the third round would bring his total to 219 (+3) and a tie for 13th place.
"We are learning and applying that knowledge as we go," said Sliman. "But the team handled itself well. We are a better mentally-focused team today because of it."
The Cajuns posted a team score of 905 (300-290-315) and finished 10th overall. San Diego (870) took top honors with N.C. State (873), UNO (878), Troy (879) and UALR (885) rounding out the top fine.
Alex Ching of San Diego took top medalist honors with a 9-under total of 207. On Monday, Ching tied the course record with a 8-under round of 64.
Also participating for the Cajuns was Thomas Disch (231), Thomas Petts (243) and Mark Brockhurst (247).
The Cajuns will have a few weeks off as they prepare to host the 25th Annual Louisiana Classics at Oakbourne C.C. in Lafayette, La.
