No Fooling: Cajuns Rout Blue Raiders

LAFAYETTE-Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns softball team erupted for 11 runs in the first inning and never looked back as they completed a three-game sweep of Middle Tennessee with a 12-0 run-rule victory on Wednesday afternoon at Alfred and Helen Lamson Ragin' Cajuns Softball Park.
All 20 players who dressed out for the game for UL (21-7, 4-2 Sun Belt) played.
On the afternoon, the Cajuns collected 11 hits, including three extra base hits. Seven different Ragin' Cajuns batters collected hits on the day.
Codi Runyan, Katie Smith and Lana Bowers each collected multiple hits on day. Runyan finished the day 3-for-3 with two runs scored, three RBI and a home run. Smith was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Bowers finished the day 2-for-3 with a double, a triple two RBI.

Donna Bourgeois (15-4) earned the victory for the Cajuns. The sophomore threw just 37 pitches as she scattered a pair of hits over 3.0 innings of work. She fanned two batters without issuing a walk.
Bourgeois gave way in the fourth inning to Brittany Cuevas. The junior tossed 1.1 scoreless innings allowing just one hit. Cuevas struck out struck out one batter and did not issue a free pass.
In the final inning, Amanda Hill entered the game. She threw three pitches retiring the only batter she faced. Shari Sigur came in to record the final out of the game, securing the shutout for the Cajuns.
The Ragin' Cajuns jumped out to an 11-0 lead after one inning of play. The Cajuns scored 11 runs on eight hits and three errors by the Blue Raiders.
The first inning started with a single by Smith. She advanced to second on a throwing error by Middle Tennessee and moved to third as Karli Hubbard reached base on a fielding error by the Blue Raiders. Melissa Verde walked on four straight pitches to load the bases with no outs. Runyan singled to left field for her first RBI of the afternoon.
A ground out plated Hubbard from third base and left the Cajuns with a pair of runners in scoring position. Gabriele Bridges drew a base on balls to reload the bases for UL and a ground out scored Verde from third.
With two on and two out with the Cajuns still batting in the first inning, a fielding error extended the inning and allowed Runyan and Bridges to score. Erikka Murphy singled to third base and Vallie Gaspard who reached on an error advanced to third. Back-to-back singles to short by Smith and Hubbard scored Gaspard and left the Cajuns with the bases loaded. Verde cleared the bases with one swing as she singled off of the right field wall, scoring Murphy, Smith and Hubbard. Runyan drove in two more runs as she hit her fifth home run of the season, giving the Cajuns an 11-0 cushion after one inning.
The Cajuns added an insurance run in the third inning. With two outs, Runyan singled to third base. Courtney Trahan pinch ran for Runyan and came around to score as Bowers tripled to right center field.
