LAFAYETTE-Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns softball team needed extra innings for the second consecutive game as they down
Tied 2-2, Gabriele Bridges led off the inning with a single to left field. The Wildcats left fielder threw the ball away allowing Bridges to advance all the way to third base. After surrendering a pair of runs in the first inning, the Cajuns used solid defense and stellar pitching to hold the Wildcats scoreless for the next eight innings.
Donna Bourgeois, who worked 7.0 innings in the Cajuns' first game of the day, threw a complete game in the night cap. Bourgeois scattered five hits in 9.0 innings of work. She struck out 13 batters in the game, while issuing just four walks. Bourgeois held
The Cajuns offense collected five hits in the game, including a double by Melissa Verde. Katie Smith finished the game with a pair of hits, while Verde led the team with two RBI.
In the third inning, the Cajuns started off the inning with back-to-back bunt singles by Smith and Karli Hubbard to give UL a pair of base runners. Verde lifted a 2-2 pitch into left center field for a two-run double to tie the score at 2-2.
