Scoring Drought Proves Costly for Cajuns

FAU (9-12, 6-5) outscored the Cajuns 11-1 while UL struggled from the floor.
Things quickly turned around, as UL held the Owls without a field goal for the next four minutes. The Cajuns reeled off seven unanswered points to cut the score to 47-36 with 4:27 remaining.
FAU outscored UL 6-0 over the next three minutes to put the game away.
The Cajuns shot 28.8 percent in the game, making only 15 total baskets from the floor. Mercedes Johnson, Alexis Green and Jasmine Barnes combined to make 14 baskets for UL.
Green led the Cajuns with 20 points, scoring 12 point on four triples in the final 1:26 of the game. Johnson finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Brittany Bowe led the Owls with 18 points.
UL turned the ball over on its first two possessions of the second stanza to fall behind by 14 points early.
A jumper from Barnes and another offensive put back from Johnson cut the margin back to 10 points. Barnes added two free throws to help the Cajuns cut their deficit under double figures, 36-28, with 15:28 still remaining.
Neither team scored for over four minutes, until Teri Stamps' basket kick-started an 11-0 run by the Owls.
UL committed 22 turnovers, to just 11 by FAU. The Cajuns won the rebounding battle 45-41.
The Cajuns shot just 26.9 percent in the first half en route to a 10-point deficit after 20 minutes.
The Cajuns jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead on a driving lay-up from Green and an offensive rebound and put back by Johnson.
UL maintained a lead for almost all of the first 10 minutes of the contest. FAU used a 10-3 run to build a 19-14 lead with under seven minutes to play.
Green nailed a triple to get the Cajuns back within two points, but FAU answered with a three-point basket from Jessica Knurick to spark a quick 5-1 burst. The Owls lead was six points, 24-18, with five minutes remaining.
Unfortunately, Green's three-pointer at 6:21 would be the Cajuns last field goal of the half, allowing the Owls to build a 30-20 lead at the break.
