Cajuns Drop Crucial Match to UNO

LAFAYETTE ? Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns volleyball lost to the University of New Orleans Privateers Thursday night in New Orleans 3-0, by scores of 25-10, 25-15 and 25-19, completing UNO's season sweep of UL and dropping the Cajuns to 4-13 in Sun Belt play and out of tournament contention.
UL (7-20 overall) is statistically out of contention for the conference tournament, which takes the top eight teams across both the East and West divisions, falling just short of the Florida Atlantic Owls. They stand at 5-11 currently and will play the league's leading team, Florida International, on Saturday.
The Cajuns needed to win out in the last matches of the season in order to maintain a half-match lead over Florida Atlantic in the Sun Belt standings and be included in the tournament as the eighth seed, assuming an FAU loss to FIU.
Amie Goodwin led the Cajuns against New Orleans (19-9, 12-5 SBC West) with five kills, three assists, three digs, and one block assist. The Privateers' defense held Louisiana at bay, allowing just 21 kills all night. Elizabeth Inman backed up Goodwin with four kills on .222 hitting and two block assists.
Lesley Mirarchi posted two block assists, while setter Kendra Hall made her presence at the net known with a solo block and a block assist.
Libero Lindsay Brown led the defense with 16 digs, her fifth consecutive double-digit performance, her 14th of the last 16 matches, and 21st overall.
UNO's Dobrilla Kovacevic, second-leading hitter in the conference, caused most of the damage for the Cajuns. She nailed 15 of the Privateer's 41 kills, as part of an offense that has caused trouble for all of their opponents this season as the Sun Belt's third-best hitting team.
Louisiana returns home for the final match of the season and Senior Day on Sunday. They will face ULM (1-29, 0-16 SBC West) at 3 p.m. in Earl K. Long Gym.
