LAFAYETTE ? Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns dropped a 3-0 match to the University of New Orleans Tuesday night, by scores of 25-18, 26-24 and 29-27. The Cajuns fall to 6-14 overall and 3-7 in Sun Belt Conference competition.

Freshman middle blocker Lesley Mirarchi led the Cajuns with 13 kills, her best match since hitting 14 at North Texas on Oct. 3, and five errors in 30 attacks for a .267 hitting percentage.

Rachel Mauti paced the Cajuns in hitting percentage at .375, putting down four kills in eight attempts with just one error. She also added two service aces in one of her strongest performances of 2008.

Carly Payan hit nine kills to back up Mirarchi on the match-leaders list, with three errors in 18 chances for a .333 percentage, and tacked on two block assists.

Lindsay Brown again led the defense with 11 kills and one service ace.

The Cajuns jumped out to an early 7-3 lead in the first set, only to see it erased by the resurgent Privateers, who tied the score at 8-8, and charged the rest of the way. The final seven-point deficit for the Cajuns was the largest of the set.

Set No. 2 saw UL drop to an 11-17 disadvantage midway through the match, but had a comeback of their own to tie the score at 20-20. The two teams traded points, alternately moving the score into a tie or a one-point lead for the Privateers, passing through four more tie scores before UNO served an ace at 25-24 to end the set.

The climactic third set went blow-for-blow throughout each rally, as 18 tie scores demonstrates. Only once did either team lead by more than two points. At 27-27, the Privateers ended the match with two kills as part of a stunning .645 third set hitting percentage, which included zero attack errors in 31 attempts.

The Cajuns head north to Middle Tennessee for their next match on Friday, Oct. 24, as the first leg of a four-match road trip.
