Volleyball Releases 2007 Schedule

LAFAYETTE ? Thirteen home matches highlight the 2007 Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns volleyball schedule which was released Thursday by head coach Amy Kraljev.

 

UL, which finished with an 8-21 overall mark in 2006, opens its season with the Capital One Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball Classic August 24-25 at Earl K. Long Gym. The Cajuns will open up against the Jackson State Tigers on Friday, Aug. 24 before squaring off against Tennessee-Martin and Central Arkansas on Saturday, Aug. 25.

 

After its season-opening home tournament, the Cajuns will play 11 consecutive matches on the road, beginning Tuesday, Aug. 28 at Lamar.

 

From there, the Cajuns will participate at the Sam Houston State Invitational Aug. 31-Sept. 1 in Huntsville, Texas, and the Fiesta Bowl Tournament Sept. 7-8 in Flagstaff, Ariz.

 

Northern Arizona, the host institution for the Fiesta Bowl Tournament, is led by former Ragin' Cajuns volleyball head coach Chris Campbell from 1999-2001. Kraljev played for Campbell in 1999 and 2000 at UL.

 

The Cajuns will then face I-10 rival McNeese State on Tuesday, Sept. 11 in Lake Charles before traveling to Memphis, Tenn., for the University of Memphis Invitational Sept. 14-15.

 

Louisiana-Lafayette finally returns home Sunday, Sept. 23 for its Sun Belt opener against Florida International at 1 p.m. However, UL's trip home will be brief as the Cajuns play another five road conference matches before returning home for an identical five-match homestand.

 

The Cajuns close out the regular season slate with four conference matches ? splitting them evenly at home and on the road. UL travels to Louisiana-Monroe (Oct. 28) and North Texas (Nov. 2) before finishing the regular season at home against Arkansas State (Nov. 9) and UALR (Nov. 10).

 

The Sun Belt Conference Championship will be hosted by the University of Denver on Thursday, Nov. 15 through Saturday, Nov. 17.
