COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS ? For the second straight game in the College Station Regional, Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns went into extra innings and, unfortunately for the Cajuns, the final result was the same.  UL dropped a 2-1 eight-inning decision to Sam Houston State ending the season for the Cajuns.

Louisiana ends their season with a record of 46-18, while the Bearkats advanced to face Texas A&M in a Saturday evening elimination game for the right to face Houston in Sunday's championship game.  Sam Houston enters the Saturday night contest with an overall record of 38-25.

The Cajuns and Bearkats entered the bottom of the eighth inning of the low scoring contest with the score tied at one.  SHS first baseman Amy Brown led off the inning flying out to centerfield and Casey Everitt, who was three-for-four in the game, reached on an error.  Stephanie Mosley's bloop double into short right centerfield scored Everitt from first and the Bearkats had the 2-1 victory over the Cajuns.

Cajuns third baseman Melissa Verde took Bearkats starting pitcher Brandi Crnkovic's first pitch of the top of the second inning over the right field wall and Louisiana had their first lead of the regional.  The home run was Verde's ninth of the season and the first hit of the regional by a UL starter hitting in the four through nine spots.

Everitt's solo home run to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning tied the score.

The Verde and Everitt solo home runs would be the only scoring in the game until the bottom of the eighth inning, with the Cajuns leaving a runner in scoring position in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings.

Crnkovic pitched a complete game victory, checking the Cajuns on four hits and improving to 20-12.  Louisiana pitcher Brittany Cuevas matched Crnkovic in the circle, scattering six hits to take the hard-luck loss.  Cuevas ends her inaugural campaign tied for fourth in wins in a single season with 31 and eclipsing the 300 strikeout mark with 303 for the season.  She finishes the season with a 31-11 mark.

Verde led the Cajuns at the plate with a three-for-three day, while Karli Hubbard had the Cajuns other hit.
