NEW ORLEANS-Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns baseball team extended their winning streak to eight games as they claimed a 3-1 victory over New Orleans on Friday night at Maestri Field.

The Ragin' Cajuns improved to 40-13 on the year and 23-6 in the Sun Belt Conference while New Orleans dropped to 32-23 and 15-14 SBC.

The Cajuns collected nine hits on the night with one extra base hit.

Nolan Gisclair collected the only extra-base hit of the game for UL as he led off the fifth inning with a triple to left centerfield.  Gisclair would go on to score and tie the game in the fifth inning at 1-1.

Devon Bourque and Scott Hawkins both had a pair of hits on the night.  The duo both went 2-for-3 with a walk.

The Cajuns scored just three runs on the night, but that was enough as Hunter Moody and Andrew Laughter combined for a six hitter and held the Privateers to just one run.

Moody improved to 8-3 on the season as he worked 6.0 innings.  The junior scattered six hits?all singles?while allowing just one run on the night.  Moody fanned four batters while walking just one.  After surrendering a run in the third inning, he retired eight consecutive batters from the fourth through the sixth.

Laughter entered the game in the seventh inning.  The senior from Longwood, Fla. picked up his third save of the season as he worked 3.0 scoreless innings.  Laughter did not allow a hit or a walk, while striking out one.

The Privateers were the first to score as they plated a runner in the bottom of the third inning.  With one out, Moody hit a batter with a pitch.  A single to left field gave UNO a pair of baserunners.  A fly ball recorded the second out of the inning, but a single to right centerfield scored the first run of the game.

Trailing 1-0, the Cajuns answered in the top of the fifth.  Gisclair collected the only extra-base hit of the game as he tripled to left centerfield.  A one-out single up the middle by Xavier Alexander scored Gisclair from third and knotted the score at 1-1.  Bourque followed with a single through the left side of the infield.  The Cajuns loaded the bases as Josh Logan singled through the left side.  A sacrifice fly by Matt Hicks put UL on top 2-1.

The Cajuns added an insurance run in the sixth inning.  Hawkins drew a free pass to lead off the inning.  Jefferies Tatford followed with a single through the right side of the infield that moved Hawkins to third.  With runners on the corners, Gisclair hit a deep fly ball to right field to score Hawkins on the sacrifice fly.

Three runs would be all the Cajuns would need as solid mound performances kept the UNO batters off of the scoreboard.

The Ragin' Cajuns and the Privateers will conclude the series at 3:00 p.m. at Maestri Field.  The game will be broadcast on CST.
