Women fall to No. 47 USA, 7-0

MOBILE, Ala. ? Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision against Sun Belt Conference foe South Alabama (12-7) at the Bruce David Memorial Courts on Thursday. The loss drops the Cajuns to 13-8 on the season.

In doubles action, the No. 47 Jags jumped out the gate quickly against the Cajuns. Clemence Remy and Laura Martelli fell to Dijana Stanic and Michaela Babicova 8-0 at No.3.

The battle to control the first point of the match was hotly contested at the No.1 and No.2 positions. USA's Adrianna Solarova and Sylvanie Spangenberg defeated Tammy Day and Chanell Meijer 8-6 at No. 1, while Mrythe Moleveld and Angela Dangond, dropped their match to Rita Frietas and Jelena Krivacevic 8-5 at No. 2.

In singles, the Jaguars clinched the match after Solarova, the No. 47 player in the nation, posted a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Day.

The Jaguars completed the sweep with wins at positions two through six. Molenveld fell to No. 112 Babicova 6-2, 6-0 at No.2, while Remy dropped her match to Krivacevic 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3. USA's Stanic topped Meijer 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5) at No. 4, while Martelli was defeated by Spangenberg 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5. Dangond fell to Frietas 7-5, 6-2 at No. 6.

The Cajuns travel to Troy Saturday, April 14 for an 11:00 a.m. contest. The Cajuns will then complete the regular season portion of their schedule when they compete at the Sun Belt Conference championships in Denton, Texas Friday-Sunday, April 20-22.
