Women?s Tennis Season Ends

DENTON, Texas ? The season ended for Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team after it fell to No. 5 seeded Troy 4-2 in the Sun Belt Conference Championships on Friday. The Cajuns end the season at 13-9.

The Cajuns won the doubles point after taking matches at positions two and three. Myrthe Molenveld and Angela Dangond clinched the point with a 9-8(2) victory over Claudia Strauss and Stephanie Vieria at No. 2. The team of Clemence Remy and Kimmie Lyles downed Nicole Shaw and Caroline Jounia 8-6 at No. 3.

In singles competition, Dangond put the Cajuns up 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Fabiana Gouvia at No. 6.

The Trojans won the next four singles matches to gain the victory.

Tammy Day fell to El Sisi 6-3, 3-6, 3-6 at No. 1, and Strauss topped Remy 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3. Meijer was defeated by Vieria 2-6, 2-6 at No. 4, while Martelli fell to Jounia 6-7 (6-8), 1-6 at No. 5.

The match between Molenveld and Bares was unfinished at No. 2.

Troy advances to face Florida International in Saturday's semifinals. Match time is set for 1:30 p.m.
