LAFAYETTE, La. - Louisiana's 21st ranked Ragin' Cajuns split a doubleheader with Sun Belt Conference leading Troy on Saturday afternoon at Lamson Park.  The Cajuns remain one game behind the Trojans in the loss column of the conference standings.

In game one, the Cajuns received a stellar pitching performance from Brittany Cuevas.  The freshman from Brazoria, Texas pitched her first career no-hitter and the Cajuns bats provided four home runs in support of Cuevas as UL cruised to a 7-0 victory.

In game two, the Trojans hit four out of the park as they split the twin-bill with an 8-5 victory.

Cuevas dominated in the circle from start to finish, allowing no hits and four walks.  Cuevas struck out nine Trojan hitters en route to her 24th win of the season against seven losses.  In her last 15 innings of work, Cuevas has not given up a run and has only yielded two hits.  Angela Lopez took the loss for Troy and fell to 16-4.

Lopez came back in game two to pitch the final four innings and improved her season record to 17-4 as she was credited with the win.  Holly Tankersley took the loss for the Cajuns and is now 12-5 overall.  Amanda Hill pitched the final 2.2 innings for UL, giving up four hits and one run.

With the doubleheader split, Louisiana is now 38-13 overall and 9-7 in conference play, while Troy is 36-13 overall and 14-6 in SBC play.

In game one, Louisiana right fielder Desi Chatman took the first pitch of the bottom of the second inning from Lopez into the left field bleachers giving the Cajuns a 1-0 lead.  Chatman's second inning home run was her eighth of the season.

The Cajuns added two runs in the bottom of the third on Tankersley's 13th home run of the season, a two run blast to right centerfield.  With one out, Codi Runyan doubled to left field and Tankersley's shot extended the UL lead to 3-0.  Melissa Verde added a double in the Louisiana third.

Tankersley led off the bottom half of the fifth inning with her team leading 14th home run of the season, a towering shot to right center field, as UL increased their lead to 4-0.  Following a Lacey Bertucci base on balls and a Chatman single up the middle, Lana Bowers singled to centerfield scoring both runners, and the Cajuns led 6-0 at the end of five.

Bertucci's 11th round tripper of the season in the bottom of the sixth, a solo shot, gave Louisiana a 7-0 lead going into the top of the seventh inning. Bertucci's HR was the Cajuns fourth of the game.

Louisiana took a 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning of game two as Runyan led off being hit by a pitch and later scored on a Chatman RBI single.

In the top half of the second, Troy took a 2-1 lead on a Felicia Hammer two-run homer.

The Trojans extended their lead to 4-1 in the top half of the fourth inning on a Brooke Powell double to right center which plated two runs.

Melissa Verde's two run home run to right centerfield in the bottom of the fourth inning cut the Troy lead to 4-3. Chatman walked to lead off the inning and scored ahead of Verde.

Troy answered with three more runs in the top of the fifth to extend their lead to 7-3.  Back-to-back homers by Heidi Johnson and Courtney Davis provided the Trojans with the three spot in the top of the fifth.

Tankersley, Chatman, and Verde all singled in the bottom of the fifth cutting the Trojan lead to 7-4.  Verde's single scored Tankersley from second.

Troy added a single run in the top of the seventh on an Amanda Ragan home run giving the Trojans an 8-4 lead.

UL and Troy will play the rubber match of the three game series on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
