Privateers Hold Off Late Cajuns Rally, 3-1

NEW ORLEANS ? Louisiana's recent Sun Belt Conference road frustrations continued Tuesday night as the New Orleans Privateers held off the Ragin' Cajuns 3-1 (30-27, 30-21, 28-30, 30-26) at the Human Performance Center.

UNO's Lindsey Boler led all players with a match-high 18 kills, while Dobrilla Kovacevic and Lindsey Loyd added 14 and 12 kills, respectively. Kaley Hubbard was the fourth Privateer in double figures, tallying 10 kills.

Once again, the Cajuns (2-18, 1-4 Sun Belt) were paced offensively by junior Elizabeth Inman (Forth Worth, Texas) and freshman Amie Goodwin (Tucson, Ariz.). Inman led the Cajuns with 13 kills, despite committing 11 attack errors. The rookie Goodwin added 12 kills for her 16th double-digit performance of the season and her fourth in conference play.

Louisiana tallied 44 kills against the UNO ? the most since the Cajuns registered a season-high 71 against Florida Atlantic on Sept. 22. Prior to Tuesday's match, UL had failed to record more than 28 kills in its previous three contests.

Tuesday's loss marked Louisiana's fourth straight conference loss. UL, however, did snap a string of five-straight 3-0 defeats. UNO (8-10, 2-3 Sun Belt) has now won the last five meetings in the series with the Cajuns, dating back to the 2004 season.

The Cajuns led briefly earlier on in game one, but were unable to build upon their slim one-point lead. Trailing 5-4, the Privateers rallied for a 12-4 run to take a 16-9 lead. From there, UNO would hold the lead until the Cajuns tied the game at 27 all. However, the Privateers closed out game one with three straight points, taking a 30-27 win.

The Privateers out-hit the Cajuns in game one, registering a .220 attack percentage. UL hit for .143 after accumulating 14 kills in the opening game.

UNO would never allow the Cajuns the lead in game two, as the Privateers opened the frame with a commanding 11-2 lead. New Orleans held UL to a .091 hitting percentage en route to a 30-21 win in game two.

Louisiana rebounded in the third game. Although the Cajuns led 1-0 in the third, UNO quickly took the advantage away, jumping out to an 11-3 lead. The Cajuns battled back, eventually pulling even at 20-20. The lead then bounced back and forth between the teams before the Cajuns, holding on to a 28-26 lead, pulled away for the 30-28 win.

UL looked as though it was going to force a fifth and decisive game with its play in game four. Tied 19-19, the Cajuns were able to build a three-point lead, 23-20. However, that lead quickly vanished as UNO scored 10 of the final 13 points to take the fourth game, 30-26.

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns return to action Friday when they travel to Troy, Ala., to face the Troy Trojans in a Sun Belt Conference match.
