Cajuns Perform Well at Houston Invitational
February 5, 2005
HOUSTON-The University of Louisiana Lafayette's men's and women's indoor track and field teams were not able to win any events at the University of Houston Hyatt-Regency Invitational but were able to gain some invaluable experience in a loaded field of 15 schools.
Senior distance runner Walter Whitfield turned in the highest finish for UL Lafayette with a third place performance in the men's 3000 meter run with a time of 8:31.92. This marks the third top five finish of the season for the senior from Chauvin, LA.
Freshmen Jake Simmons continued his collegiate success as he turned in a sixth place finish in the men's 3000 meter run with a time of 8:41.45.
The men's team also had some success in the 60 meter dash with two Cajuns finishing in the top seven. Junior Jarvis Murchison finished 4th with a time of 6.83 and senior Derek Richardson finished 7th with a time of 6.91.
Junior Laura Zaunbrecher highlighted the efforts on the women's side with a 6th place finish in the women's 1000 meter run posting a time of 3:10.13.
Both the men's and women's distance medley teams had good outings with the men finishing 5th with a time of 10:48.36 and the women finishing 4th with a time of 13:48.98.
The Cajuns will be back in action on Feb. 18 in Baton Rouge at the LSU Twilight Invitational.
