Tankersley Named LSWA Softball Hitter of the Week

LAFAYETTE
– Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns softball player Holly Tankersley
added another weekly honor Tuesday when the Louisiana Sports
Writers Association named her Hitter of the Week for her
performance in the 10th-ranked Cajuns sweep of Western
Kentucky last weekend.Tankersley, the Sun Belt Conference Hitter of the Week, was rewarded with her second LSWA honor of her career.
Tankersley finished the weekend series with Western Kentucky 7-for-9 (.778) with two doubles, three home runs, seven RBI and five runs scored. She hit a two-run home run and a two-RBI double to give her four RBI in the Cajuns 9-1 series finale win which clinched the 2004 Sun Belt championship.
She ended the weekend with a 2.000 slugging percentage as she collected 18 total bases in just nine at bats (five of seven hits for extra bases). She raised her batting average 29 points to a team-leading .340.
The Kirbyville, Texas,
native hit three home runs to increase her season total to
16 which ties he for second on the single-season charts with
former
All-American Alana Addison. In the series finale, while
getting a home run and four RBI, she also pitched, allowing
just two hits over five innings.
This is the final of the weekly set of awards for softball players for this season.
No. 10 Louisiana-Lafayette wraps up Sun Belt Conference play this weekend as the Ragin' Cajuns travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn., for a four-game series with Middle Tennessee Saturday,-Sunday, May 8-9. The squad will then return home for the 2004 Sun Belt Tournament which will be held at Ragin' Cajuns Softball Park Thursday-Saturday, May 13-15.
