Cajuns To Face Middle Tennessee In Sun Belt Tournament Semifinals

Sunday, March 7, 2004

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns men's basketball team found out its next opponent in the 2004 Aeropostale Sun Belt Conference Tournament here Sunday night when Middle Tennessee knocked off tourney-host Western Kentucky 76-62.

Louisiana-Lafayette (18-8) and Middle Tennessee (17-11) will square off at 5:30 p.m., on Monday, March 8 in the first semifinal game of the tournament.

The contest will be aired live on Cox Sports (channel 27 in Lafayette) as part of the Sun Belt/ESPN Regional television package.

The Ragin' Cajuns are playing in a semifinal game for the fifth time under head coach Jessie Evans and eighth time since joining the Sun Belt.

UL Lafayette is 5-2 all-time in semifinal contests and won its last semifinal game at E.A. Diddle Arena when then-USL topped in-state rival UNO 59-55 in the 1994 event.

The Cajuns and Blue Raiders met earlier this season in Murfreesboro, Tenn., with UL Lafayette posting a 74-64 victory on Saturday, Jan. 31. UL Lafayette has won the last two meetings in the series.

Louisiana-Lafayette and Middle Tennessee will be meeting in the SBC Tournament for the first time since the Blue Raiders joined the league in 2000-01.

Should the Cajuns win Monday evening, they would advance to Tuesday's championship game which will be aired on ESPN2 at 8 p.m.
