LAFAYETTE - Anna Petrakova and Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns made history on Monday night at Earl K. Long Gym.
The Cajuns 85-24 victory over Prairie View A&M breaks the school record for largest margin of victory, surpassing the old record of 48 points set on Jan. 27, 1980 vs. New Orleans at EKL Gym and earlier this season vs. Savannah State at the Cajundome.
The Cajuns become the first team in school history to start a season 7-1.
The Cajuns shattered several other team records in the process. UL's 17 blocks break the old school mark of 11 set on Jan. 20, 2001 at North Texas, while the Cajuns' 74 rebounds tie the school mark set on Feb. 5, 1979 vs. Fort Polk and are the most against a Division I opponent.
No team has allowed fewer points in a game against a Division I opponent, home or road, in Cajuns history, as UL held PVAM to 10 field goals on 66 attempts (15.2 percent). The previous low was 34 points allowed against Nicholls State on Dec. 14, 1985.
Petrakova, meanwhile, becomes the first player in University of Louisiana basketball history to record a triple-double.
After seven blocks in the first half, Petrakova needed only three minutes to collect her eighth and tie the school record.
Petrakova had 10 points at the break and recorded her tenth rebound 4:29 into the second half. Four minutes later she added a pair of blocks on the same PVAM possession, giving her 17 points, 13 rebounds and 10 blocks.
Eleven players scored for UL, with three in double figures.
Onna Charles finished with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Sonora Edwards added 12 points and nine boards. Tiffany Washington added a career-high five blocks to go with seven points and five rebounds.
The game was a runaway from the beginning, as it took just 6:26 for all five Cajuns starters to score to begin the game. Charles knocked down a three-pointer, giving all five players at least one basket, and UL a 17-0 lead.
The Cajuns upped their lead to 22-0 following a three-pointer from Petrakova and Edwards' first basket of the contest.
PVAM got on the board after Ciara Sanders banked-in her 17-foot jumper on the right wing.
UL continued to shoot well and play excellent defense, building a 31-8 lead with 8:33 to play in the first half. PVAM had just three baskets on 23 attempts.
The Cajuns ended the half by scoring the final eight points to take a 43-12 lead after 20 minutes.
UL has now won six straight home games dating back to last season after sweeping its current four-game homestand.
Up next for the Cajuns is a match-up with the Arkansas Lady Razorbacks in Little Rock, Ark. on Thursday at Alltel Arena.
