Antoine
Landry Named Sun Belt Player of the Week
Monday, Jan. 5, 2004
The
New Orleans native was named the Sun Belt Conference
Player of the Week – the first such honor of his career
and first this season for the Cajuns program.
Landry led the Cajuns in scoring in both games last week including a career-high and game-high 26 points Saturday against Houston.
His 26 points against UH helped offset the fact that leading scorer Brad Boyd was held to just two points and no field goals.
The point total against Houston was a new career-high, breaking his previous best 22 set at Xavier (Ohio) Dec. 20. The 26 points marked his third 20-plus point performance of the season.
Landry converted 6-of-10 threes at No. 4 Arizona and scored 20 points in nearly handing the Cajuns the upset of the Wildcats. His final three of the UA game gave the Cajuns a 67-65 lead with 3:40 left to play.
He followed the Arizona performance with a 6-of-9 showing from beyond the arc against Houston Saturday at the Cajundome.
Landry ended the week 12-of-19 from three-point range (63 percent) and 16-of-28 in total field goals (57 percent).
He averaged 23 points per game last week to increase his team-leading season average to 14.4 points, surpassing fellow senior Brad Boyd for top scoring honors on the team.
Landry and his Cajuns teammates open Sun Belt Conference play this weekend at Denver on Saturday, Jan. 10 in a 5 p.m. (CT) matchup at Hamilton Gymnasium.
