Cajuns Fall to UTPA 3-1, Drop Fourth Straight Match

Despite a career-high 21 kills from sophomore Lesley Tough

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns volleyball team was unable to snap
its latest streak of misfortune.
Texas-Pan American posted a 3-1 (30-23, 30-26, 28-30, 30-28) win over the Cajuns (2-4) in the two team's final match here Saturday afternoon at the Stephen F. Austin Invitational and sent UL Lafayette to its fourth straight setback after a 2-0 start to the season.
Tough led all Cajuns with her new career best and also had 16 digs to record her second double-double of the season and 10th of her young career.
Senior setter Beth Henson had a career performance as well - collecting a career-high 20 digs. The Lafayette native also had 14 kills and 29 assists as she posted the Cajuns first triple-double of the season.
Henson ended the weekend 24 kills, 104 assists and 41 digs in her first action after sitting out last weekend's Our Lady of Lourdes SportsCare Volleyball Classic recovering from an illness. For her efforts she was selected to represent the Cajuns on the all-tournament team.
Sophomore transfer Elina Salomaki tallied 12 kills as the Cajuns placed three players with double-digit kills.
UTPA (3-4) counterattacked four players registering double-digit kills led by Cathi Netemeyer's 22. Netemeyer posted a match-high .426 attack percentage (22 kills, 2 errors, 47 attempts).
UTPA attacked at a .250 clip and outkilled the Cajuns 75-61.
Louisiana-Lafayette outblocked the Broncs 12-4 for a season-high in the blocks category.
The Cajuns return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 9 as they travel to New Orleans for a 7 p.m. match at Tulane.
