Cajuns Rally Falls Short Against SFA

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Lesley Tough and Hope Webre each registered 15 kills, but it wasn't enough as Stephen F. Austin rallied behind a triple-double from Brittany Burton to post a 3-2 (26-30, 30-28, 30-24, 26-30, 15-7) win over Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns volleyball team in the opening round of the SFA Invitational.
Burton posted a match-high 22 kills to go along with 10 digs and 12 blocks to guide the Ladyjacks to the match win after dropping the first game.
The match was fairly even statistic-wise, but SFA managed to out-block the Cajuns 16-6 for the deciding difference in the match.
UL Lafayette (2-2) dropped its second straight match, but did so without putting up a fight. The Ragin' Cajuns rallied from a 2-1 deficit in the match to force a fifth game.
Louisiana-Lafayette was led by Tough and Webre who each tallied 15 kills. Webre also led the Cajuns attack with a .375 attack percentage (15 kills, 3 errors, 32 attempts).
Friday's match saw the return of Cajuns senior setter Beth Henson. Henson, who sat out last weekend's Our Lady of Lourdes Classic recovering from an illness, recorded nine kills, 13 digs and 40 assists for her first double-double of the season.
Last week's setter Tami Harvey played in three games and picked up 12 assists.
UL Lafayette dropped the third game of a match for the fourth consecutive time this season as SFA posted a 30-24 win.
The Cajuns will return to action Saturday on the final day of the SFA Invitational for a 9:30 a.m. match with Tulsa and a 4:30 p.m. affair with Texas-Pan American.
