Cajuns Fall 3-0 To Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns volleyball team will have one more chance to extend its streak of consecutive seasons with an in-season tournament championship.
Memphis posted a 3-0 (30-22, 30-21, 30-15) win over the Cajuns here Saturday in the finale of the UM Invitational to claim the tournament championship and deny Louisiana-Lafayette a tournament title.
Since the 2000 season the Cajuns have won at least one in-season tournament title. UL Lafayette's final chance will come next weekend, Sept. 19-20, at the Forrest General SportsCare Classic hosted by Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Miss.
Louisiana-Lafayette dropped its second match of the day and ended the weekend with a 1-2 record. The Cajuns have lost seven of the last eight matches since beginning the season at 2-0.
UM (10-1) hit .367 for the match, including a season-best .552 in the third game, downing 18 kills against just two errors on 29 attacks. The Tigers were paced offensively Nancy Nellans' 19 kills.
UL Lafayette (3-7) struggled to find an offensive rhythm, hitting .114 in the opening game, and hit .024 in game two. The Ragin' Cajuns hit .093 for the match, and went the entire match without acing the Memphis passers.
Hope Webre led the team with eight kills on 22 swings, while Beth Henson led the defense with nine digs. Henson was also named to the All-Tournament team - the second straight weekend she represented the Cajuns at a tournament.
The Cajuns failed to place one player in double-figures in kills and digs and allowed an opponent to attack above .200 for the seventh time in the last eight outings.
