LAFAYETTE- Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns baseball team wins the final game of a three game series here at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field by a score of 5-3 against the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders. UL Lafayette wins two of three over the weekend and improves to 3-3 in Sun Belt play and 10-21 overall on the season, while the Blue Raiders drop to 2-4 in conference and 11-14 on the season.

UL Lafayete junior right-handed pitcher Jordy Templet made the start against Middle Tennessee right-hander Jerry Knox. Templet (3-3) threw 7 1/3 innings, giving up just three runs on eight hits and striking out seven to get the win.

UL Lafayette third baseman Dallas Morris put the Cajuns on top 1-0 in the first inning with his second homerun of the season.

Middle Tennessee responded to tie the game in the second inning on a RBI single to left field by clean-up hitter Jeff LeGuenec.

The Cajuns scored more two runs off Knox in the bottom of the second inning to take back the lead. Louisiana-Lafayette went up 3-1 after lead off hitter Jason Wilson drove in both runs with a single up the middle.

UL Lafayette extended the lead to 5-1 after adding two more runs off Blue Raider reliever Shay Horseman in the fourth inning. Designated hitter Rhett Buras drove in one run on a double to left center and right fielder Kevin Preau drove in Buras with a single up the middle to give the Cajuns a four run cushion.

Middle Tennessee added one run off Templet in each the fifth and eighth innings, but couldn't capitalize after leaving the tying run on second base with the bases loaded in the eighth inning. Corey Coles relieved Templet with one out and runners on first and second in the eighth. Coles held Middle Tennessee to just one run in the inning and retired the side in the ninth inning to preserve the win and pick up his first save of the 2003 season.

Louisiana-Lafayette improves to .500 in Sun Belt play and will next travel to Beaumont, Texas for a Tuesday night game against Lamar at 6:30 pm, before heading to New Mexico State for a big weekend Sun Belt series in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
