LAFAYETTE- Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns baseball team picked up a 2-1 victory in game three of their series and win two of three here at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field against the Troy State Trojans. The Cajuns got a great outing from starting pitcher Austin Faught and had just enough offense to win the series and improve to 5-7 overall on the year.

Faught held the Trojans to just one run through 7 1/3 innings, allowing just five hits and striking out five batters. Closer Kevin Ardoin picked up his third save of the season for UL Lafayette after pitching a flawless 1 2/3 innings in relief and striking out two Trojan hitters.

Troy State got on the scoreboard first in the top of the third inning when Tab Beadle hit a one-out single, stole second base, and scored on a single through the infield by Trojan right fielder Brandon Atkins.

UL Lafayette tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning when senior designated hitter Bryan Sneed hit a two-out single off Troy State starter Michael Gallops (1-0) scoring Kevin Preau from second.

The Cajuns added the go ahead run off Troy State reliever Paul Darby in the bottom of the seventh inning. Right fielder Kevin Preau hit a two-out single scoring Dallas Morris with the eventual winning run from second. Preau went two for three on the day and drove in the go ahead run.

The Cajun pitching combination of Faught and Ardoin held the Trojans scoreless for the rest of the game to secure the 2-1 win. Paul Darby (0-2) suffered the loss for the Trojans after allowing one run in two innings of relief.

The win was head coach Tony Robichaux's 291st with the Ragin' Cajuns and ties him for first in all-time wins with ex Cajun skipper Mike Boulanger. Robichaux can become Louisiana-Lafayette's all-time wins leader as a coach this upcoming weekend in Houston.

UL Lafayette (5-7) will next travel to Houston, Texas for a three game weekend series Feb. 28-Mar. 2, with the #20 ranked Houston Cougars starting at 7 p.m. this Friday night. The Cajuns will be looking to avenge a three-game sweep against the Cougars last season at Moore Field.
