Cajuns Fall To UALR 3-0 In Homestand Opener

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns volleyball team opened a four-match homestand here Friday night at Earl K. Long Gym, falling to Arkansas-Little Rock 3-0 (21-30, 27-30, 24-30) in Sun Belt Conference action.
Ivana Vracar posted a match-high 17 kills to lead the Trojans (13-9, 4-4 Sun Belt) to their third straight SBC victory and third consecutive straight sets sweep. Ana Carolina Buccini tallied 12 kills and Larisa Durmisevic added 11 as the Trojans had three players reach double-digits in kills.
UL Lafayette (4-17, 0-8 Sun Belt) was led by 10 kills from Elina Salomaki - her second straight match with double-digit kills. The Cajuns suffered their 10th straight defeat overall and sixth straight at Long Gym.
The Cajuns also lost in straight sets for the third straight match and remain winless all-time versus UALR in regular season play.
Beth Henson posted the lone double-double of the match tallying 19 assists and 12 digs to go along with nine kills. Lindsey Bermes had eight kills while Stacy Liverett collected six.
Louisiana-Lafayette played the match without sophomore Lesley Tough, the team leader in kills per game, because she was sidelined with a shoulder injury suffered last Sunday at Florida International.
Both teams had three block solos with UL Lafayette's Kim Rodgers posting a match-best two. The Trojans out-blocked the Cajuns for the match 9.0-4.0.
UALR used a balanced attack defensively with six players tallying at least six digs. Offensively the Trojans limited their errors and attacked above .200 in each game.
Errors were the deciding factor in the 18-point margin between the two teams. The Cajuns had 10 more attack errors and were out-killed 49-42.
Louisiana-Lafayette will continue its current homestand and attempt to break into the win column in conference play on Sunday, Oct. 26 in a 1 p.m. match against Sun Belt East Division leader Arkansas State at Long Gym.
