Cajuns Announce 2002-03 Schedule

LAFAYETTE The University of Louisiana at Lafayette released its 2002-03 men's basketball schedule on Thursday. The 28-game slate features several national television games on ESPN and ESPN2.
The Cajuns will start the season on the road with three contests, opening at SEC Tournament Champion and NCAA Tournament participant Mississippi State on Nov. 23.
The season's first home game will be on Dec. 11 against Louisiana College. Alcorn State (Dec. 16) and Bethune Cookman (Dec. 18) round out a three-game homestand.
The Cajuns will hit the road for two holiday tournaments, participating in the Golden Bear Classic Dec. 20-21 and the Pepsi Holiday Classic in Charlotte, N.C. from Dec. 27-29. Two of the Cajuns' three games in the PHC will be televised. ESPN2 will air UL Lafayette's game versus Colorado at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27 and the Dec. 29 meeting against the host Charlotte 49ers at 4:00 p.m.
Sun Belt Conference play begins on Jan. 2, when UL Lafayette hosts New Mexico State. The game marks a rematch of last season's thrilling game in which the Cajuns defeated the Aggies 69-67 to win the Sun Belt Western Division.
Louisiana-Lafayette embarks on a four-game road swing from Jan. 4 through Jan. 15 with non-conference games at Houston and Providence and SBC tilts at South Alabama and New Orleans.
The Cajuns return trip to New Mexico State on Saturday, Feb. 15 will be televised on ESPN regional television.
ESPN will air the Cajuns final game of the season, a Feb. 26 contest in the Cajundome against the SBC Regular Season and Tournament Champion Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.
Eight teams on the Cajuns schedule enjoyed postseason appearances in 2002. Five schools, Mississippi State (#3), California (#6), Charlotte (#9), Western Kentucky (#9) and McNeese State (#14) all played in the NCAA Tournament, while Alcorn State, Detroit and Houston appeared in the postseason NIT.
