UL Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns
CAJUNS RALLY TO SWEEP MSU...April 9, 2002

?LAKE CHARLES – Louisiana-Lafayette scored five of the game's final six runs, and the Cajuns got another good effort from pitcher Jordy Templet as they defeated McNeese State 6-3 Tuesday night at Cowboy Diamond.

?Senior third baseman Scott Carboni went 2-for-5 with four RBIs and added his first home run as a Cajun as visiting Louisiana-Lafayette (22-11) completed a season sweep over MSU (19-15). It also marked the first Cajun victory at MSU in five tries and just the third triumph in 16 outings in Lake Charles.

?Templet (4-2) notched his first victory as a Cajun starter this year. The Gonzales sophomore pitched seven innings, struck out six and allowed just three runs. Walt Nolen (0-1) got the loss in relief for the Cowboys.

?MSU generated most of its offense in the third inning as Brian Bernhardt launched a solo home run, and Tim Lemke later recorded an RBI double. Trailing 2-0, though, the Cajuns battled back in the sixth.

?Carboni, who has been plagued with injuries during his two-year stint at Louisiana-Lafayette, came through with a three-run opposite field shot off MSU starter Josh Hansen. MSU scored in the bottom of the frame to tie it, but the Cajuns answered back in the seventh.

?Catcher Mike Kabel lifted a seeing-eye single that kissed the right field chalk, which allowed Justin Bourque to score, to regain the Cajun lead. Carboni added an RBI fielder's choice – plating Phillip Hawke – and the Cajuns got a ninth-inning insurance run when Corey Coles scored Carboni with an RBI single.

?Coles, who relieved Templet in the eighth, worked the final two innings to record his first career save.

?Louisiana-Lafayette will continue its six-game road trip with a 6:30 p.m. Wednesday contest at UL Monroe.
